Sunday Worship

During COVID-19 our worship services are online.  We offer a podcast page, where you can listen to our sermons. You can find it by going to this website: https://sonomaumc.buzzsprout.com

Join us for our Sunday discussion and prayer group at 10:30 via Zoom. You can get the information by signing up for e-mail newsletters at the bottom of this page, or contacting the church office at sumcoffice@comcast.net. The e-mail offers ways to create a worship space in the comfort of your own home, with music, spiritual practices, and scripture.

Typically worship is at 10:00am at 109 Patten St. Sonoma CA.

Sunday School for adults and children meets at 9am.

What to Expect:

Our congregation is fairly casual.  People come to church dressed in their Sunday best or in jeans and a t-shirt.  During worship we have a mix of traditional hymns and more contemporary music.  Each service begins with the ringing of the courtyard bell, then we all join together in a responsive Call to Worship.  Next, we sing an opening hymn and greet one another with signs of peace.  Throughout worship we sing, pray, read scripture, and hear a sermon.  An offering is also taken each week to support the ministry of our church.  In addition, we take a loose change offering that goes to benefit a specific organization or ministry.  First time visitors are not expected to give, but we hope that you encounter a welcoming place that inspires you to get involved and give with a generous heart.  At the close of a service, we all join hands to receive the blessing before heading out into the world.

After worship, we share in a time of fellowship together in the Isaac Own Room or Fellowship Hall.  all are invited to this time of sharing in conversation and yummy teams.

Every first Sunday of the month we celebrate Holy Communion together, and everyone is welcome at the Table.  You don’t have to be United Methodist, or even a Christian to participate in this means of grace.

Every second Sunday of the month we do a special offering for Heifer International, an organization that seeks to give farm animals to communities in need.  If you are curious about the work of Heifer International click here (https://www.heifer.org/).  During this offering we invite people to share a reason why they are giving.  It is often in memory of a birthday or anniversary, or sometimes, just because they like cows.  It is a fun and joyful time to share something we are thankful for as we help others.  Y
